Albatross Update: September 2018

As we make our way into the new Albatross breeding season, so far 11 chicks have fledged for their first ever flight to make their big journey around the southern hemisphere to spend 5 years out at sea before returning back to land at Pukekura “Taiaroa Head”, 2 Albatross chicks are still here waiting for the right moment.

We have had 11 returning Albatross recorded for the 2018-2019 season, at this time of the year, sightings come with a little luck as the Albatross come and go and begin to wait for their partner and start to establish a nest.

Our later tours can sometimes provide a better chance of seeing Albatross in flight. For updated viewing, please contact us either via email at reservations@albatross.org.nz or (03) 478 0499.

  1. Thank you for your work to support albatross breeding and that you let us participate by webcam.
The new camera with sound is exzellent. The light might be infrared, not to disturb the birds.
Greetings and best wishes fir the New Year from Bremen, Germany.
