The Otago Peninsula packs so many attractions into a small amount of space. It is home to white-sand beaches, native gardens, superb scenery, New Zealand’s only castle and some of the world’s most beautiful and rare wildlife including Royal Albatross, Yellow-eyed and Little Blue Penguins. The Royal Albatross Centre has partnered with a range of local tourism businesses to provide visitors with a range of combo tours that allow you to make the most of your time in the area. See the options below:


60 minute Albatross tour: Visit the world’s only mainland colony of Royal Albatross to view the nesting albatross in their natural habitat from our viewing area. Tour includes a short introduction of the albatross life-cycle and Natural History NZ film. (will be joining our last albatross tour of the day) the tour takes 18 visitors.

Hearty birdwatchers Dinner: Fish and chips, served with a delicious sweet slice and tea or coffee.

Blue Penguin Viewing: Join the Blue Penguins Pukekura tour and watch the world’s smallest penguins as they return home to their cliff-side burrows after a day at sea. Discover more about the work was done by Pukekura Trust to help the little blue penguins thrive. Tour holds 90 visitors on the viewing platform.

Transportation: pick up is from the Dunedin i-SITE information centre with a city (CBD) drop off after your blue penguin tour.

Monarch Wildlife Cruise – Enjoy a wildlife cruise aboard the Monarch, which takes you around the spectacular Taiaroa Head to see what can’t be seen from land – several species of albatross, fur seals and other marine mammals and up to 20 species of ocean birds.

Royal Albatross Centre – Afterwards make your way to the Royal Albatross Centre to enjoy an Albatross Tour. Home to the world’s only mainland breeding colony of Royal Albatross – watch these magnificent monarchs of the ocean at their nests from within the Pukekura (Taiaroa Head) nature reserve.

This is a self-drive tour. Itinerary will be provide once booking has been made.

Larnach Castle – visit New Zealand’s only castle at your own leisure. Visit the grounds and the castle and experience the heritage of Dunedin.

Penguin Place – Enjoy a 90 minute guided tour to view the rare and endangered Yellow-Eyed penguin in their natural habitat through viewing hides and trenches in a private conservation area.

Royal Albatross Centre – Enjoy a Unique Taiaroa to discover all that Pukekura (Taiaroa Head) has to offer. Visit the world’s only mainland colony of Royal Albatross, explore the underground tunnels of Fort Taiaroa and see the world’s only Armstrong Disappearing Gun in its original emplacement in the world.
