A Tour Designed For School Holidays
An EXPRESS version of our albatross tour. Includes a quick introduction by our guide, a short walk up the hill, and 15 minutes of viewing time in the glassed observatory to see nesting albatross chicks.
ONLY AVAILABLE during the Wild Dunedin Festival in April school holidays!
The chance to see the world’s only mainland Royal Albatross breeding colony, right here at the tip of the Otago Peninsula in Dunedin. Learn about the breeding cycle of the Northern Royals, discover how large chicks grow within only a few months, and hear about the conservation efforts conducted in the area to protect and enhance the colony. Limited spaces – book now!
The albatross chicks hatch in late January each season, so in April they are 2.5-3 months old and quite large! Parents are feeding at sea full time and come in to feed chicks once every 1-3 days at any time of day – more likely when it’s windy!
